Dr. Marie Patterson, director of academic fieldwork education in the occupational therapy program at the , presented 鈥淐ommonalities in Occupational Therapy Level II Fieldwork Failure: A Program Review鈥 at the on April 2, 2022.
鈥淭his is my first collaboration with Dr. Shannon Levandowski, the Academic Fieldwork Chair of the AOTA Academic Leadership Council. The research presented sought to analyze records from Occupational Therapy students unsuccessful fieldwork experiences for themes about failure鈥 said Dr. Patterson. 鈥淚t was found that students failing the level II experience struggled with clinical reasoning and soft skills. The results of the study directed program decisions, revealing the need to examine the qualitative experiences of students who fail level II fieldwork.鈥
Dr. Patterson hopes that this research will help guide occupational therapy fieldwork programs throughout the country.
